Grafill Grafisk design: Louise Paradis - Typografische Monatsblätter

The Typografische Monatsblätter was one of the most important journals to successfully disseminate the phenomenon of ‘Swiss typography’ to an international audience. With more than 70 years in existence, the journal witnessed significant moments in the history of typography and graphic design.

Louise Paradis

Grafill Grafisk design inviterer til foredrag med Louise Paradis.

In 2011, Louise Paradis’ diploma project consisted of an investigation of the covers designed between the years 1965 until 1985. The designers of these covers are presented through biographies, interviews and excerpts discussing their thoughts and ideas. This project served as the foundation for 30 Years of Swiss Typographic Discourse in the Typografische Monatsblätter which provides a more extensive overview of the celebrated journal as well as the development of late twentieth-century typography and graphic design.

Louise Paradis is an art director, and lecturer based in Montreal. She received a BA in graphic design from UQAM, Montreal (2003), and an MA in Art Direction from ECAL, Lausanne (2011). She worked for several years (2003–2009, 2016) as a graphic designer and art director for American Apparel in Los Angeles. Her work was included in the exhibition 50 Years of Helvetica at MoMA, New York (2007), in the traveling exhibition Type We Can Make (2010) as well as the exhibition and book ECAL Graphic Design (2016). Paradis is lead researcher, co-author and co-designer of 30 Years of Swiss Typographic Discourse in the Typografische Monatsblätter published by Lars Müller (2013). The project received many nominations including the Most Beautiful Swiss Book award (2013).
